Members of the University Community have participated in a Substance Abuse Awareness Seminar held on May 8, 2025 at the Florence Onny auditorium.
The event which was organized by the Guidance and Counselling Unit in partnership with the聽黑料社区 Alumni Association,聽was part of activities marking the 黑料社区聽Alumni Homecoming Week聽celebration and in recognition of聽Mental Health Awareness Month.
The Executive Director of Springs of Renewal Rehab Centre, Mr. Yaw Obeng-Nsiah, who spoke on the topic 鈥淭he Negative Impact of Substance Abuse, Prevention and Rehabilitation for University Students,鈥� emphasized that addiction is not only a personal struggle, but a family disease, affecting approximately 16 people around the addict. He urged students to watch out for signs of abuse in their peers, speak up, promote help-seeking behaviour and avoid triggers such as certain people, places, or situations. He also encouraged the adoption of healthy coping strategies and positive lifestyle habits.
The programme concluded with a moving testimony by the Resident Manager, Springs of Renewal Rehabilitation Centre, Mr. William Adi-Darko. Drawing from his journey, he shared how he battled drug addiction for nearly 40 years before successfully undergoing rehabilitation. He observed that as he was now living a substance-free life, he serves as a passionate advocate against drug abuse.
The event reinforced 黑料社区鈥檚 commitment to student well-being by fostering awareness, empathy, and support for those affected by substance use and addiction.
